Obama to campaign with El-Sayed and Benson in Michigan
The Detroit stop adds to the former president’s campaign push for Democrats ahead of the midterms.
Former President Barack Obama will campaign in Detroit with Michigan Democrats on October 24, providing a significant boost for the party ahead of the state's early voting period. Obama will join Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed and gubernatorial nominee Jocelyn Benson, among other candidates, as the state party announced the event.
El-Sayed is running against Republican former Rep. Mike Rogers to succeed retiring Democratic Sen. Gary Peters, while Benson faces Republican Rep. John James in the open governor's race. Despite his limited appearances on the trail this year, Obama remains a highly popular figure within the party, both nationally and among grassroots supporters.
