England boss Tuchel says Scott can challenge Rice for midfield spot

England's manager Thomas Tuchel has stated that Declan Rice faces competition for his midfield position following an impressive display by Alex Scott in their recent Nations League match against Croatia. Scott, who made his first international start, partnered with Elliot Anderson in midfield and controlled the game, despite facing experienced Croatian players Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic.

Tuchel told reporters, "Of course, and he does, we need performances like this." He emphasized that England cannot succeed with just two central midfielders. Rice, acknowledged by Tuchel as one of the best midfielders in Europe, is aware of his importance to the team. Tuchel affirmed, "Nothing will change that." However, he added that the team needs greater variety and more options.

England currently holds the top position in their group, trailing behind World Cup winners Spain, and will face the Czech Republic at Wembley on Tuesday.
