Caleb Flynn update: Ex-American Idol contestant breaks down amid life without parole sentence; ‘I didn't kill my wife’

Caleb Flynn, the former American Idol singer, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder of his wife, Ashley Flynn. The 40-year-old was found guilty of aggravated murder and other charges related to Ashley’s death in Ohio. The 37-year-old schoolteacher and volleyball coach was killed at their home in Tipp City, a suburb of Dayton, in February.

Prosecutors alleged that Flynn had staged the scene to make it appear as though an intruder had broken in and murdered his wife, then called 911 and claimed a burglar was responsible. During the investigation, prosecutors presented evidence of Flynn’s affair with Alleigha Botner, a former intern and worship leader at his church.

In a message sent to Botner on the night before the shooting, Flynn wrote, “I choose you. I’m free. Actions will come tomorrow.” During sentencing, Judge Jeannine Pratt expressed her concern over Flynn’s attempt to use his faith to cover up his actions. Flynn expressed remorse in court, apologizing to his family, especially his two daughters, and denying he had killed Ashley.

The prosecution's case included evidence from Flynn’s electronic devices, fingerprints, and DNA. However, investigators were unable to recover the gun used in the killing, and Flynn's defense argued there was no direct evidence proving he fired it. Flynn's lawyers plan to appeal the conviction, while he will remain in prison with no possibility of parole.
