Irene Sofiya had wanted to become a doctor like her late mother

Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, a 16-year-old student, had always dreamed of becoming a doctor, specifically a specialist doctor at Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Serdang. Her mother, an engineer and public health specialist, passed away from liver cancer when Irene was only nine years old. Her father works as an engineer in Bangi, Selangor.

Her aunt, Siti Nur Faeza Khyar, revealed that Irene had once discussed her aspiration to become a doctor, just like her late mother, with Siti. Siti, a teacher and Irene's aunt, described the victim as a diligent student with a wonderful character who never caused trouble for the family. She noted that Irene was a quiet person who studied hard and achieved excellent academic results, often ranking first or second in her form in school.

Irene was expected to excel in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination the following year. Her family and school had high hopes for her academic success. On the day of the incident, Irene's family went out to search for her after she failed to return home after extra classes. Her aunt expressed her inability to imagine the fear and pain Irene must have endured, especially in the dark school hall.

She also mentioned that her niece was found covered in blood but no one was aware of her condition at the time. The perpetrator's actions were described as cruel, and Irene's family hopes that the police will conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the responsible person receives a fitting punishment.
