49ers’ Brock Purdy Compared to Legendary Tom Brady in Bold Claim

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has put on a stellar performance so far in the 2026 NFL season for his team, emerging as a standout performer among quarterbacks in the league. ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky has drawn a comparison between Purdy and legendary quarterback Tom Brady, attributing similar levels of excellence to Purdy's current form.

Throughout the first three games, Purdy has been remarkably productive, completing 60 of 83 passes for 789 yards, with 9 touchdowns and just 1 interception. This impressive passer rating reflects an impressive completion percentage and a favorable touchdown-to-interception ratio. In addition to his passing prowess, Purdy has also made notable contributions on the ground with 10 carries for 93 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Orlovsky's analysis has been particularly laudatory, describing Purdy's performance as akin to Brady's peak years with the New England Patriots. In fact, Orlovsky has ranked Purdy among the six best-performing quarterbacks of the season, including Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Trevor Lawrence, and Kirk Cousins.

The 49ers have lived up to Purdy's stellar performance thus far, beginning their season with a 27-7 road victory over the Los Angeles Rams, followed by a dominant 35-13 home win over the Miami Dolphins and a close but ultimately successful 36-30 game against the Arizona Cardinals. The team has scored 98 points (second in the NFL) while allowing only 50 (third), showcasing an offensive efficiency that ranks among the elite.

Their defense, despite early injuries, has managed to hold up, currently standing at 1st in the NFC West and 2nd in the overall NFC standings.
