Petronas Chemicals appoints Izwan Ismail as MD, CEO effective Jan 1, 2027

Petronas Chemicals Group has appointed Izwan Ismail as their new managing director and chief executive officer, effective January 1, 2027. This appointment was approved at a special meeting of the board of directors following the resignation of current MD and CEO Mazuin Ismail, who is retiring from the Petronas group. Izwan, who is 51 years old, brings extensive experience in finance, corporate planning, strategy, commercial management, operations, and technology.

Over the past few years, he has been serving as vice president of group technology and commercialisation, leading initiatives in AI and digital transformation at Petronas Nasional Bhd. Before joining Petronas in 2000, Izwan worked at Arthur Andersen in Sydney from 1997. He has a Bachelor of Commerce with double majors in Accounting and Information Systems from the University of New South Wales, Australia, and an MBA from Harvard Business School in the United States.

Izwan holds professional certifications as a fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand, and a member of Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Malaysian Institute of Accountants.
