Petroleum Sales Fall 2% Year-on-Year to 1.35 Million Tons

Pakistan's petroleum product sales decreased by 2% year-on-year in September 2026, reaching 1.35 million tons, according to Topline Research. However, the numbers rose by 7% compared to the previous month. The growth in September was primarily driven by higher diesel sales due to seasonal factors. In the first quarter of FY27, OMC sales totaled 4.12 million tons, marking a 6% increase from the same period the previous year.

This growth was mainly due to higher furnace oil sales. When furnace oil is excluded, OMC sales fell by 8% year-on-year to 1.25 million tons in September, but rose by 8% from August. For the first quarter of FY27, these sales amounted to 3.85 million tons, which were nearly the same as the previous year's corresponding period. Within the industry, high speed diesel sales declined by 11% year-on-year to 525,000 tons in September, but increased by 25% month-over-month to 422,000 tons.

Motor spirit sales reduced by 5% year-on-year to 652,000 tons, and fell by 2% from August. Other products saw an 8% year-on-year decrease to 76,000 tons. Furnace oil sales surged to 93,000 tons in September from 13,000 tons a year earlier, indicating a staggering 601% increase. However, volumes were down by 5% from August. For the first quarter of FY27, furnace oil sales reached 270,000 tons, a remarkable 470% increase from 47,000 tons a year earlier.

Among major OMCs, Pakistan State Oil (PSO) experienced the most significant September growth. Total sales grew by 12% year-on-year to 639,000 tons, and month-over-month by 12%. PSO's high speed diesel sales increased by 9% year-on-year to 269,000 tons, while motor spirit sales rose by 15% to 302,000 tons. PSO's first quarter sales amounted to 1.91 million tons, up by 18% year-on-year.

Its high speed diesel sales grew by 12% to 759,000 tons, and motor spirit sales increased by 25% to 953,000 tons. Attock Petroleum Limited (APL) reported flat total sales of 116,000 tons in September compared to the previous year, although volumes decreased by 4% month-over-month. APL's first quarter sales stood at 364,000 tons, up by 11% year-on-year.

APL's high speed diesel sales fell by 31% year-on-year to 37,000 tons, while motor spirit sales declined by 10% to 50,000 tons. Its furnace oil sales rose to 25,000 tons from 1,000 tons a year earlier. Wafi Energy Pakistan recorded September sales of 110,000 tons, which decreased by 6% year-on-year but increased by 2% month-over-month.

Its first quarter sales grew by 6% to 348,000 tons. Hascol Petroleum's September sales were 37,000 tons, down by 14% year-on-year but up by 5% month-over-month. Its first quarter sales fell by 12% to 114,000 tons.
