Hadi: PAS still open to BN pact for Melaka polls, ready to contest under own logo

KUALA LUMPUR, October 2 — PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has stated that his party remains open to forming a political pact with Barisan Nasional (BN) for the upcoming Melaka state election, provided it leads to a Malay-Muslim administration. Speaking to reporters at Masjid Rusila in Marang, Terengganu, Abdul Hadi dismissed any cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the Melaka polls, firmly rejecting the opposition alliance.

The party president emphasized that the key is Malay-Muslim leadership in the state. Discussions among potential allies for the state election are moving forward in consensus, according to Sinar Harian. Abdul Hadi confirmed that PAS will contest the election under its traditional moon symbol if the Registrar of Societies (RoS) requires it, expressing no issues with using the PAS logo.

The logo dispute arose after the RoS suspended Perikatan Nasional (PN) activities under Section 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966, temporarily freezing their operations. Abdul Hadi also noted that while there might be some reluctance among BN state leaders in formally agreeing to pacts, the decision ultimately lies with the party leaderships.

Despite this, the Marang MP claimed that there is widespread support among BN supporters for cooperation with PAS for the state election. He stated that he believes most BN supporters are in agreement with the idea of unity between BN and PAS if BN requests such cooperation, and that they would discuss it further.
