Yankees news: Max Fried gets 100% real on winning playoff series vs. Red Sox

Max Fried, the New York Yankees' left-hander, secured a 9-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox in Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series, marking his first opportunity in nearly a year to celebrate a playoff series win with his team. In a post-game interview, Fried expressed his genuine satisfaction with the moment, emphasizing that celebrating with teammates after a playoff series win is an experience that never loses its value.

"Being able to celebrate with your teammates after a playoff series win is... It doesn't get old. This is what we start practicing in February, for this is where we wanna be, so just about playing our game and having fun. Hopefully we’ll get a couple of these."

Fried played a crucial role in the Yankees' triumph, limiting Boston to just one run over six innings while striking out six batters. The sole run he allowed came on a solo homer by Willson Contreras. The Yankees had already gained an 8-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, with six runs scored in that inning, including a three-run homer from Cody Bellinger, sealing the victory.

This performance allowed Fried to move past a challenging memory from the previous postseason, where he was set to start Game 5 against the Toronto Blue Jays but New York was eliminated in four games.

The Yankees will now face the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS, with Game 1 scheduled for Saturday in St. Petersburg, Florida.
