San Miguel GS at Altaona (30 September 2026)

The new (well, not quite so new now) Club House at Altaona is a welcoming spot for pre-golf sustenance – otherwise known as breakfast – while the driving range overlooking the 1st hole is ideal for warming up. The new Club House at Altaona serves as an inviting place for pre-golf meals, while the driving range overlooking the first hole is perfect for warming up. As we approach the end of September, the anticipation for December's C Word grows. Yesterday, I noticed individuals purchasing selection boxes, raising concerns about the American Thanksgiving timing.

The weather was warm and cloudy, with temperatures reaching a toasty 30°C, much warmer than expected for this time of year. The putting green provided a preview of the front nine greens, which were slightly fluffy and slow, requiring some practice to adjust. Overall, the course is in excellent condition and continues to thrive as a top Murcian golfing destination.

"Tall Lady" (Altaona) received mixed reviews, but it proved to be a challenging test. It was nice to see familiar faces return from their summer break. Mick Pryke, our outgoing Captain, did a stellar job guiding the club through the past year, and we extend a heartfelt thank you to him. Paul Lambert will take over as the new Captain next week.

This week's scores include a Gold winner, Richard McCann (40 points), a Silver winner, Barry "BTB" Roehrig (41 points), and a Bronze winner, Dave Blinston (35 points). Darren Strugnell took both the Net (69) and Gross (77) honors in last week's Club Championship, achieving an outstanding round. Helen Kelly won the Twos Pot with a superb downhill putt.

Nearest the Pins was won by Kenny Winton (3rd), Lee Eastman (8th), Paul Guest (11th), and Richard Whitely (17th). Denis Ryan claimed the football card with Barnsley, and Mike Seymore marked his return after the summer by winning the McBride Bottle. Eddie Frahill and Sean Troy were the best guests, and two birthdays were celebrated – Lee Eastman's 60th and Paul Lambert's 60th.

We also welcomed Michaela Schmidt from www.golf-hotspots.com, who thoroughly enjoyed her first outing on the course. Pictured from left to right are: Carmel McCann (Bronze 3rd), Michaela Schmidt (Golf Hot Spots), Mike Seymour (McBride Bottle), Lee Eastman and Paul Lambert (Silver 2nd), Helen Kelly (Twos & Silver 3rd), Bill Crichton (Silver 4th), Kenny Winton (NTP), Richard McCann (Gold 1st), and Richard Cleary (Bronze 2nd). Well done, everyone!
