NFL survivor picks, strategy: Week 4 safe, value, and trap options
October is upon us! The NFL heads into Week 4 and with the fall weather, football really and truly is in the air! Last week opened with the Falcons thumping the Packers in Green Bay, which tells us plenty about how bad the Packers are right now. The most notable upset has to be the […]
We're now in October, and the NFL is getting ready for Week 4. Last week's action included the Falcons beating the Packers in Green Bay and the surprise victory of the Cardinals over the previously unbeaten Seahawks. The Jaguars also managed to beat the Patriots in a surprising result.
This week, I'll be sharing my picks for the NFL Survivor game, which involves choosing one team each week to win. If the team wins, you move on; if they lose, you're out of the game. I'm participating in a double-elimination pool with four entries, and I've already lost two of them due to the Chargers and Bucs losing their first two games. I made three picks last week, two of which were for the 49ers and one for the Chiefs, which helped me advance to another week.
Now, let's take a look at the three types of picks I'll be discussing: safest choices, best value picks, and trap picks. I'll share my own selections later on. I'll update my picks on Sunday once I lock in my final three picks for the weekend. I've included the odds for the favored team in each game, provided by FanDuel.
Safest Picks:
The Vikings (-10.5) over the Dolphins and the Ravens (-11.5) over the Titans are the safest picks this week. With only a few options left to use them, I recommend using the Vikings as they are projected to be favorites in both the upcoming Week 12 and Week 13 games. If you haven't used them yet, they could be a better value for the Jaguars at home against the Titans and the Broncos at home against the Dolphins.
Best Value Picks:
Minnesota (-10.5) over the Dolphins is considered the best value pick this week. Although many will choose the Ravens, the Vikings seem to make the most sense overall. Trap Pick:
The Seahawks (-7) over the Chargers and the Bills (-6.5) over the Patriots are both trap picks. Seattle might bounce back after their struggles against Washington, while the Los Angeles team has been performing poorly. The Chargers are not yet ruled out, making this a risky game for the Seahawks. I don't think it's the right time to bet on a divisional game at this stage.
