Indian pilot Smit Machchhar has been hailed as a hero for his actions that helped avert a potential disaster on a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The incident occurred on a Boeing 737 during a confrontation in the cockpit, causing the aircraft to descend nearly 20,000 feet. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged Machchhar's extraordinary bravery, stating that he was the captain who was attacked by his colleague.
Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, Machchhar fought back, opened the cockpit door, and helped passengers and crew overpower the attacker. This prevented a catastrophic mid-air disaster, allowing the flight to land safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. The incident has been widely reported by Israeli media, with Netanyahu's initial information facing political backlash in Israel and accusations of political exploitation ahead of his election campaign.
