Zahlen für das 1. Halbjahr: Preise für Strom und Gas sinken auf hohem Niveau leicht

In the first half of this year, German households paid significantly higher prices for electricity and gas compared to before the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The average cost of a kilowatt-hour of natural gas was 11.58 cents, a 5.3% decrease from the second half of 2025 and a 4.5% decline from the first half of 2025.

However, despite this slight reduction, households still paid more for gas than at the beginning of the conflict. Meanwhile, electricity prices followed a similar trend, decreasing by 6.4% from the second half of 2024 and 4.9% from the first half of 2025, mainly due to lower transmission fees. However, overall, private consumers still paid 16.4% more for electricity compared to pre-war levels.

The impact of the Hormuz crisis on business and government customers was relatively positive, with these entities paying an average of 6.29 cents per kilowatt-hour for gas, excluding VAT and other deductible taxes. Similarly, non-household consumers paid an average of 17.64 cents per kilowatt-hour for electricity without taxes. The initial effects of the Hormuz crisis were evident in gas prices for businesses, which were 1.8% higher compared to the second half of 2025.

This is because the Hormuz Strait, crucial for global oil and gas trade, has been effectively closed since the start of the conflict between the US and Iran in late February. Changes in wholesale pricing to private consumers typically take time to propagate through long-term contracts.
