On Wednesday, Flydubai flight 1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv experienced an alleged attempted hijacking, forcing an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reported that one pilot stabbed his counterpart and tried to crash the Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft. The incident occurred as the plane approached Israel.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz described it as an attempted jihadist terror attack. Passengers Ron Levi and Dov Lieber recounted their terrifying experience to CBS News. According to their accounts, the flight was going well until sudden, severe turbulence began, causing the plane to turn and move erratically for an extended period.

Passengers were initially unaware of the severity of the situation, mistaking it for turbulence. As the plane continued to shake, shouts emerged from the front, and passengers near the front began to get up. Some passengers reported seeing one pilot stab the other, with the aim of crashing the plane. Israeli officials stated that the attacker's intention was to crash the aircraft with all passengers on board.

Passengers managed to intervene, remove the attacker from the cockpit, and stabilize the aircraft. No injuries were reported, aside from the stabbed pilot, who was taken for questioning by Saudi authorities. Israeli security forces are investigating whether the attack was intended to be a Sept. 11-style terror attack, and whether the attacker acted alone.
