US-led coalition ends mission in Iraq
Baghdad and Washington agreed in 2024 to wind down the coalition's mission, and its troops withdrew gradually from bases across the country. Their final withdrawal is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi declared October 1 to be celebrated as Sovereignty Day.
