Uniform service charges to bring clarity to LT, HT power connections: TGSPDCL CMD

Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) Chairman and Managing Director Jitesh V. Patil announced a new uniform service line charging system for low-tension (LT) and high-tension (HT) electricity connections. This change aims to provide consumers with clarity on the charges payable in advance, eliminating uncertainty from case-by-case estimations of service line costs.

The system, approved by the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC), introduces fixed charges based on the sanctioned load for 11-kV HT connections, set at ₹4,078 per kVA. Other costs, such as development charges and security deposits, will follow prevailing rules. The USLC system applies to connections within one kilometre of an existing 11-kV electrified network and those supplied through a common feeder.

Extensions beyond one kilometre will follow existing rules. The new system also standardizes rates for both overhead and underground networks, removing cost variations that could reach 30% to 40%. TGSPDCL will undertake necessary network expansions after receiving the prescribed USLC payment, while final technical decisions will rest with the company based on load feasibility and network capacity.

The company is also making power network details available through GIS-based mapping, though technical decisions remain with TGSPDCL. Online services will allow consumers to track application statuses, view payable charges, and monitor the progress of their files, enhancing the speed and transparency of connection grant processes.

Additionally, uniform service line charges have been introduced for low-tension consumers, covering domestic, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and electric vehicle charging connections under a simplified procedure.
