The Three Course Challenge returned to Camp Rilea on Saturday, Sept. 26, featuring more than 50 cross-country teams from Oregon, Washington, California, and Canada. This annual event, hosted by Seaside High School, is one of the few cross-country meets held in Clatsop County. The meet consists of three courses with varying levels of difficulty, ranging from 4,300 meters (easy), 5,000 meters (moderate), to the most challenging 5,000 meters (difficult) course.

For the easy course, Astoria athlete Cameron Hano finished in 20:42 and took 54th place. Warrenton freshman Jacob Stevens placed 46th with a time of 20:10.1. The overall winner for the easy course was Casey Westerfield from Stanwood High School, Washington, who completed the course in 16:12.6.

The moderate course was where most local athletes competed. Knappa, Astoria, Warrenton, Seaside, Jewell, and Ilwaco sent 25 boys to the course. Astoria sophomore Turner Boslar won with a time of 19:20.8. The Loggers from Warrenton appeared to be training, as they ran in packs of four, with Henry Peitsch finishing in 35th place.

The difficult course saw a duel between Seaside senior Kyle Weichal and Astoria freshman Grady Tillotson. Weichal finished 53rd with a time of 20:47, while Tillotson came in 57th with a time of 20:50.8. The overall winner on this course was Mario Montoya of Redondo Union with a time of 16:44.6.
