Thai Airways cancels 37 more flights at Suvarnabhumi amid flood-hit baggage backlog

Bangkok, September 30 — Thai Airways International has announced the cancellation of an additional 37 domestic and international flights, bringing the total to 59 since flooding began on September 26. The airline is struggling to clear a significant baggage backlog at Suvarnabhumi airport, which has been disrupted by the flooding in Bangkok and surrounding areas.

The latest cancellations were announced on the airline's official Facebook page, hours after CEO Chai Eamsiri apologized to passengers for the mounting complaints over days-long baggage delays. Several passengers expressed concern that their flights could also be affected, while others sought updates on missing luggage. One group of Thai passengers arriving from Chengdu, China, described airport baggage claim areas as "like zombies," although they eventually received their luggage after about 40 minutes.

The flooding has forced about 5,600 pieces of luggage to be delayed, following hundreds of employees being unable to reach Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports. Additional cancellations include five international flights on Tuesday, seven domestic flights on Wednesday, and four domestic flights on Thursday. The airline has not yet provided a timetable for when normal operations will resume as it continues its efforts to clear the baggage backlog.
