The Malaysian Minister of Transportation, Alexander Nanta Linggi, has stated that the implementation of the Multiple Lane Free Flow (MLFF) system is a priority, with more time given to those involved in finalizing the details of the MLFF operation. The MLFF system is expected to be implemented on a business-to-business (B2B) model, involving toll concession companies and interested parties collaborating to develop the system.

This approach will allow interested parties, particularly toll concession companies with highways and related assets, to engage with one another. The ministry has provided a timeline for them, with little time remaining, and the platform they have envisioned is now in place. The ministry is not rushing this process and the available time has been used to ensure that interested parties consider the B2B model, according to Bernama after the MyAsean Traffic and Road Technology Expo 2026 in Kuala Lumpur.

The Ministry of Transportation also emphasized that toll operators play a crucial role in facilitating discussions between toll concession companies and interested parties for the collaboration in the system. According to Azman Ibrahim, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Transportation, the MLFF system may only be implemented by July 2027.

Under the MLFF system, all exit and entry lanes of the highway will be replaced with a no-obstruction lane to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow. The MLFF system is part of the Malaysia ITS Master Plan (2019-2023) aimed at modernizing the country's highway infrastructure.
