Sport climber Lee Do-hyun grabs silver in men's boulder

NAGOYA, Japan — Sport climber Lee Do-hyun earned silver in the men's boulder event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Wednesday, securing Korea's first medal in the sport. The South Korean climber finished with 49.7 points, trailing behind Japanese star Sorato Anraku, who amassed 74.5 points. Tomoa Narasaki of Japan claimed the bronze with 44.9 points.

Boulder is a sport climbing discipline where athletes aim to complete the most routes with the fewest attempts on 4-meter walls. They earn 25 points for finishing a route (top), 10 points for reaching a designated midway hold (zone), and lose 0.1 point for each unsuccessful attempt. The maximum score possible is 100 points. In the final round, there were four problems presented.

Lee faced challenges in his first boulder attempt, but he quickly bounced back to score 24.9 points in the second and 24.8 points in the third boulders. Anraku secured a perfect 25 points on his first boulder, while Narasaki managed 24.9 points, narrowly missing the perfect score by just 0.1 point. In the subsequent rounds, Lee continued his strong performance, earning 24.9 and 24.8 points, respectively. Anraku duplicated Lee's second boulder score of 24.8 points and finished with 24.7 points in the third boulder.
