Lane Johnson is proving he remains elite in final season with Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are facing several offensive challenges after conceding just seven points in their Monday night defeat to the Chicago Bears. Despite this, right tackle Lane Johnson is not among them. Throughout his illustrious career, Johnson has consistently provided stability at right tackle, neutralizing opposing pass rushers and maintaining his reputation as one of the NFL's premier pass protectors.

At the halfway point of his final NFL season, Johnson leads all offensive tackles with a remarkable 97.2% pass-block win rate, according to Pro Football Focus. Garett Bolles of the Denver Broncos and Brian O’Neill of the Minnesota Vikings follow closely behind with 97% and 96.6% respectively. The Eagles' offensive line has undergone significant changes, entering the season without Landon Dickerson and subsequently reassigning Cam Jurgens to left guard while adding Drew Kendall at center.

With the interior still finding its rhythm, Johnson has served as the trusted veteran on the right side. Johnson's dominance in pass protection is evident; he has completed 136 offensive snaps and received a solid 74.8 overall PFF grade, placing him 15th among 69 qualified offensive tackles. His exceptional pass-blocking grade of 83.4 ranks third at the position, and his 1 sack or quarterback hit is particularly noteworthy.

Though his run-blocking grade of 68.1 ranks 26th among tackles, Johnson's overall performance confirms that he can still excel at an elite level. However, Philadelphia's offense has struggled to find consistency through three weeks, with Jalen Hurts facing uneven protection, the running game faltering, and the unit scoring only once against Chicago.

Yet, Johnson's continued elite-level performance is crucial as the Eagles search for stability around him before his celebrated career concludes.
