Samsung updates its tablet lineup with the Galaxy Tab S12 series, but drops the base model

Samsung refreshed its Galaxy Tab S series on Wednesday, unveiling two new models in the Galaxy Tab S12 lineup. The company dropped the base model, offering only the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S12 Plus. Both tablets boast faster chipsets, new AI features, and improved productivity use cases. The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra features a 14.6-inch AMOLED display, while the Galaxy Tab S12 Plus sports a 12.6-inch 120Hz AMOLED display.

Both devices pack a MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset, promising significant performance gains over their predecessors. The flagship tablet supports microSD storage expansion, with options up to 2TB, and includes advanced features like Wi-Fi 7, an advanced camera, and an in-display fingerprint reader. The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra launches at $1,400, marking a $100 price increase from last year's model, likely influenced by the global memory shortage.

In contrast, the mid-tier Galaxy Tab S12 Plus offers a larger battery, up to 2TB storage, and the same performance upgrades. Samsung also bundles several apps and services with the tablets, providing users with a total value of $445 in free trials. The South Korean tech giant is entering the market with premium tablets, as competition grows among industry leaders like Apple, Lenovo, and Xiaomi.
