SABC News: ‘The Truth That Travels With You’

In preparation for the 2026 Local Government Elections, SABC News is launching a campaign called "The Truth That Travels With You". This initiative aims to bring election coverage to the digital spaces where South Africans are most active. The campaign will provide real-time, accessible and relevant election information in all official languages, ensuring that South Africans stay informed before, during and after Election Day.

The campaign will leverage SABC News' digital ecosystem, including SABCNews.com, social media platforms, SABC+, SABC News Radio Bulletins and Radio Current Affairs programmes. This approach is crucial in an era where misinformation can spread quickly online. SABC News emphasizes the importance of credible, accurate and unbiased election reporting, with its role extending throughout the election process.

The campaign's multi-platform approach allows SABC News to connect with audiences around significant civic conversations. As of August 2026, SABC+ alone has surpassed 3 million registered users, demonstrating the broadcaster's growing digital audience and its potential for content and brand exposure. With the 2026 Local Government Elections approaching, "The Truth That Travels With You" will ensure that reliable election information can accompany South Africans from their homes to their workplaces, communities, and mobile phones.

The election dates are as follows: special vote applications opened on 21 September 2026, with applications closing at 17:00 on 12 October 2026; the deadline for special vote applications was 17:00 on 12 October 2026; special voting took place from 2–3 November 2026; and Election Day, the fourth of November 2026, is a public holiday.
