Rusia amenaza con armas nucleares a los países de la OTAN que aíslen Kaliningrado

Russia has threatened to use nuclear weapons against NATO countries that seek to isolate Kaliningrad, according to a statement from the Russian Embassy in Ireland. Kaliningrad, a strategically important enclave bordered by Poland and Lithuania, both NATO members, hosts the Russian Navy's main Baltic Fleet base and other military assets.

The Kremlin has warned that it will not hesitate to employ nuclear weapons to defend Kaliningrad if any NATO member attempts to isolate it. NATO spokesperson Allison Hart condemned the threat of force, including any irresponsible nuclear rhetoric, and affirmed that the alliance is not targeting Kaliningrad. She emphasized that NATO is a defensive alliance and that none of its activities pose a risk to any part of Russia.

Kaliningrad is home to Iskander missiles with nuclear capabilities. Western military officials have stated that the region's key military facilities would likely be among the first targets in the event of a Russian attack on a NATO member. Several NATO countries have conducted military exercises in the Baltic Sea region in recent months, with more planned for October.

Last year, Russia launched Operation Baltic Sentry to safeguard communications cables and pipelines.
