Reino Unido encarga a ACS obras de limpieza nuclear por 1.750 millones

The British government has awarded ACS the contract to perform nuclear cleanup works for £1.75 billion. Decommissioning the Sellafield plant is one of the country's most critical projects. ACS has strengthened its position as the leading British contractor to assist in dismantling and cleaning up nuclear waste from the former Sellafield plant, a massive multi-decade project involving both construction and deconstruction.

Spanish company ACS, through Hochtief, has been selected by the public company responsible for the operation to complete batch 2 of the Projects and Asset Maintenance Execution (PACE) program. The German subsidiary will provide support to specialized nuclear materials facilities for both batch processing and deconstruction. The contract is estimated to be worth up to £1.5 billion (£1.75 billion) and will have a maximum duration of 15 years with an initial term of nine years.

Hochtief announced in 2025 that it joined a contract valued at £2.9 billion (around £3.3 billion) alongside British constructors Constain and Morgan Sindall. ACS's portfolio was valued at £685 million (now expanded), focusing on civil construction work for a nine-year period, extendable until 2040. The Sellafield complex is one of the UK's most critical environmental projects, with a history of repeated incidents, the most severe being the Windscale fire on October 10, 1957, the worst nuclear accident in the UK's history and one of the worst globally.

ACS continues to grow in the digital market after winning the construction of another data center in Hong Kong. The name of the client and the budget of the contract have not been disclosed. In the US, ACS confirmed on Wednesday, as reported by EXPANSION on September 16, the signing of a framework contract worth up to £700 million for the armed forces.
