Refusing to rein in artificial intelligence, Donald Trump stages the self-regulation of its players

Greater Manchester's new progressive mayor, Bev Craig, is already building strong relationships with fellow politicians. Recently, she visited New York to meet with U.S. Mayor Zohran Mamdani, where she discussed her approach to hosting Donald Trump during the upcoming G20 summit in Manchester. Craig emphasized that she would handle the meeting in a more businesslike manner, prioritizing professionalism over personal connections.

"I’m not sure that’s the bromance I’m after in my life," she stated. Instead, she expressed her preference for collaborating with Mamdani, describing him as her new U.S. friend. However, Craig acknowledged that there is a serious responsibility in hosting world leaders. She highlighted the need for Greater Manchester to put on "grown-up shoes" when welcoming international dignitaries, ensuring the event reflects the United Kingdom in a professional and serious manner.

Craig, who grew up in Northern Ireland, also addressed Trump's controversial comments about Irish reunification. She urged caution on the matter but refused to disclose whether she would communicate her thoughts to the U.S. President directly at the G20. Nevertheless, she stressed the importance of maintaining "cool, calm heads" to prevent further tensions.

Craig's visit to New York included a meeting with Mamdani at the Urban20, an event that brings together mayors from G20 countries. During her time in New York, she actively participated in initiatives aimed at addressing housing affordability, handing out coffee machines to residents moving into new, affordable apartment blocks.

Craig emphasized that the challenges of affordability are common in major cities worldwide and that progressive mayors have a crucial role in shaping national politics for the better.
