Quicker than Tendulkar, Ponting & Sangakkara: Rohit Sharma reaches 12,000 ODI runs

India's star batter Rohit Sharma insists that his energy, intensity and intent as a batsman will never change, despite growing speculation surrounding the 2027 ODI World Cup. The 39-year-old, who has since retired from Test and T20 cricket, currently focuses solely on One Day Internationals (ODIs) and believes he still has unfinished business in the format.

Rohit recently returned to play in ODIs and showcased his skills in the first match of India's build-up against the West Indies, scoring 32 off 35 balls in the opening game. He expressed his eagerness to maintain this momentum in the next match, scheduled for Guwahati.

In an interview, Rohit spoke about staying fit and preparing on his own terms, highlighting fitness, staying in touch with the game, and watching cricket as the essentials of his preparation. He mentioned that he is doing all these things on his own time and at his own pace, which he couldn't do for 15 years when he was constantly on the road.

Rohit reiterated that the schedule changes have not softened his attitude towards batting, as the energy, intensity, mindset and intent to perform remain the same. He emphasized that whatever happens outside of this core aspect will never change who he is as a cricketer. He added that the thought of completing his ODI career never crosses his mind, as he is always looking forward to new challenges.
