PN, PAS expected to contest 7 to 10 seats in Melaka polls

Perikatan Nasional and PAS are anticipated to vie for seven to ten parliamentary seats in the upcoming Melaka state election, according to Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, the deputy chairman of PN and PAS deputy president. Discussions between PN and Umno centered around seat allocations, forming a preliminary framework for the elections, though this framework must still receive approval from the respective parties.

According to Tuan Ibrahim, who is also a Kubang Kerian MP, the negotiations were predicated on the principle that parties would retain the seats they had won previously. For instance, Umno regards a seat as theirs, even if its elected representative has since joined PAS, indicating a willingness for potential adjustments in this regard.

PAS has tasked its Melaka commissioner with drafting a list of prospective candidates, which will undergo review by the party's syura council slated for Friday. This final list is projected to be determined on October 2, in Perlis. The Election Commission is scheduled to convene on October 7 to deliberate on the electoral arrangements for the Melaka election, following the state assembly's dissolution on September 23.
