‘Dinner, but no deal yet’: Fahmi says nothing formal between Pakatan and Bersatu for now

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 30 — Pakatan Harapan has not yet entered into formal talks with Bersatu regarding possible cooperation for the upcoming Melaka state election, according to communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil. Although representatives from both parties met privately earlier this week, no formal negotiations have been initiated, Fahmi stated, adding that he has not received any information about formal discussions with Bersatu.

The dinner meeting between PH and Bersatu leaders in Melaka on Monday night has sparked speculation of an electoral arrangement between the two sides ahead of the state election. However, both sides have downplayed the significance of the gathering, with Adam Adli Abdul Halim, acting Melaka PKR chairman, describing it as a chance to maintain friendly relations and for Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz to say it was merely an informal session aimed at getting to know each other and exchanging views.

PH has also expressed openness to discussions with other parties, including PAS, which has not yet extended an invitation for talks. The situation is unfolding as the political parties weigh their strategies for the 16th Melaka state election, with the Election Commission set to meet on October 7 to finalize key election dates and procedures. The Melaka state assembly was dissolved on September 23.
