Pi.dev: You Said No MCP

The Pi.dev website used to proudly declare that Pi does not support MCP. However, users who upgrade to Pi can now find MCP as a supported functionality. This change occurred after Pi's team reevaluated the extension, considering its evolution and the useful changes it would bring to the core. The decision to integrate MCP into the core was not solely based on MCP's advancements but also on the need for a sandbox to facilitate tool usage, such as Jev.

While MCP has improved, some aspects still need work, particularly in terms of composing and server compatibility. Pi aims to address these issues by approaching MCP similarly to OpenAPI, with tools returning structured data and being discoverable through documentation. The team also recognizes the potential of Codemode, a feature that allows tools to run on the harness side, offering more flexibility and JavaScript support.

By embracing both MCP and Codemode, Pi seeks to enhance its capabilities and contribute to the ongoing evolution of the extension.
