Over 2,000 teachers in Dormaa comply with strike – GNAT Secretary

Mr Justice Acquah, the District Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in the Dormaa District, disclosed that approximately 2,000 teachers from 25 basic schools in the region have not reported to work. He disclosed that the teachers are complying with the GNAT's directive to stay at home as the association continues with the industrial action.

During an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Dormaa-Ahenkro, Mr Acquah appealed to the government to handle the concerns of GNAT, encouraging them to pay at least the promotion arrears of the teachers to facilitate the return to the classroom. Mr Acquah noted that although some headteachers are still on duty, the majority of the teachers have obeyed the strike order.

He affirmed that if the government had addressed some issues earlier, the strike would not have been declared. Mr Acquah urged the public to remain calm during the ongoing negotiations between GNAT and the government for better conditions of service for teachers, guaranteeing that the teachers would soon resume their duties. During a round visit to various basic schools in Dormaa-Ahenkro Township, virtually all institutions were closed, including the Roman Catholic Primary ‘A’ and ‘B’ school, the Seventh Day Adventists (SDA) basic school, Dormaa Senior High School Experimental Municipal Assembly, Saint Dominic Roman Catholic, and the Presbyterian schools.
