Over 100 Israeli settlers attack Palestinian family in West Bank

Over 100 militant Israeli settlers violently attacked a Palestinian family in the West Bank village of Jalud on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The attackers overpowered Israeli security forces and set the family's homes on fire. Three Israeli security officials were injured in the assault. This attack occurred amidst a surge in violence by Israeli settlers, backed by cabinet ministers, ahead of Israel's upcoming elections.

Israel's President, Isaac Herzog, condemned the attacks as a "moral stain," while former military chief Gadi Eisenkot called for an end to a "campaign of terror and violence." The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) stated that settler violence in the West Bank has made life for Palestinians "untenable" and called for an end to the frequent and severe attacks.

The ICRC also noted that Israel's obligations under international law are being violated through attacks, settlement expansion, and restrictions on movement. Several countries have imposed restrictions on trade and financing of settlement activities, and an Israeli Senate bill demanding a human rights report on the occupation of the West Bank was narrowly defeated.

The Tubasi family, who had their homes burned in Jalud, had secured a high court ruling ordering the Israeli state to evict settlers and allow their return. However, when the military attempted to escort them home during Sukkot, they were met with a violent crowd and forced to take refuge on the roof. The military decided to evacuate the family using armored vehicles, but the attackers still set the homes on fire.
