Moselakgomo’s family disappointed by Ramaphosa’s GBVF address

The family of Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo, a 38-year-old woman who was murdered, expressed disappointment that President Cyril Ramaphosa did not provide immediate action during his recent address on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). Moselakgomo was one of 12 women whose bodies were found recently in the East Rand and Soweto.

Her uncle, Andries Matlaila, noted that some of the measures announced were reminiscent of previous commitments made by Ramaphosa when he declared GBV a national crisis. Matlaila emphasized the need for families to know what immediate actions the government is taking to protect women while longer-term interventions are being implemented.

He questioned the timeline, stating, "Where will we be in that 90 days?" Matlaila also called for immediate actions from the state, as he feared another woman might be targeted in the near future.
