(LEAD) Trump could announce S. Korea's investment projects as early as Wednesday: report

U.S. President Donald Trump may unveil South Korea's investment projects in the United States, potentially including a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Alaska, as early as Wednesday, according to a Reuters report. The White House has scheduled Trump's announcement, set to take place in the Oval Office with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick at 3:30 p.m. Washington time, on Wednesday, increasing speculation about the possible announcement.

The U.S. and South Korea have been collaborating to unveil the investment projects under the bilateral trade agreement that obligates South Korea to invest $350 billion in the U.S. in exchange for reduced U.S. tariffs on South Korean goods. Last week, the South Korean industry ministry had informed the National Assembly that they have selected the construction of a large-scale gas-fired power plant in Texas as the initial investment project.

Following the trade agreement, South Korea has also planned to construct eight large-scale nuclear reactors in the U.S. and an LNG project in Alaska.
