Key leaders absent, Opposition bloc rejects Rahul Gandhi as its face: BJP

Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has voiced support for Rahul Gandhi as the Opposition alliance's spokesperson, stating she would have no objection if he were to become Prime Minister. However, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge cautioned that the meeting was not intended to discuss leadership positions, but rather to unite against the country's challenges.

Banerjee emphasized the need for all Opposition parties to collaborate, revealing her willingness to contribute as a regular worker and her recent conversations with political rivals Naveen Patnaik and M.A. Baby. Her remarks came as the INDIA bloc met for the first time since June, with leaders sharing ideas such as a collective representation to the President, addressing the "vote chori" agitation, and legally challenging the Chief Election Commissioner Bill.

Gandhi concluded the discussions by stressing the importance of unity and defending democratic institutions.
