Johor Bahru experienced a harrowing incident on September 30 when a flash flood submerged the Umiku Sayang Kindergarten and Nursery on Jalan Muhd Amin, trapping 37 pupils and seven teachers inside. The distress call was received at 3:53 pm, prompting a swift response from the Larkin Fire and Rescue Station. Senior Fire Officer I Nakish Nekmat led a team of ten firemen, equipped with a Fire Rescue Tender and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit.

They arrived at the scene, located about 10 kilometers away, at 4:14 pm and immediately launched a rescue operation. Using a volunteer's boat, they successfully evacuated all trapped victims to the nearby Tepian Food Court Surau. Remarkably, no injuries were reported among the rescued individuals. The continuous heavy rain throughout the afternoon had led to flash flooding in various parts of the city, causing significant traffic disruptions as roads became inaccessible due to overflowing floodwaters.
