HH the Amir, Malaysia PM discuss regional developments in phone call

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Qatar have urged an immediate cessation of the strife and fighting plaguing West Asia for the sake of international peace and security. During a telephone call, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim discussed the matter with Qatar's Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who emphasized the need for swift humanitarian aid and bolstered peace initiatives to alleviate the anguish of affected populations.

The two leaders deliberated on recent progress in peace talks and the ongoing conflicts in West Asia, with a particular focus on the plight of Palestinians in Gaza and the efforts to de-escalate tensions involving Iran. Anwar affirmed in a Facebook update that they both agreed on the necessity of ending the war, expediting humanitarian aid, and fortifying all peace endeavors to alleviate the suffering of the populace.

Malaysia pledges to persist in supporting diplomatic endeavors with Qatar and regional allies to achieve enduring peace, and Anwar expressed optimism that their close relationship would further strengthen, especially in trade and investment. Anwar also expressed gratitude for Sheikha Moza's invitation to Azizah (Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) to participate in the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH).

Sheikh Tamim also extended condolences over the passing of Anwar's elder brother, the late Idrus Ibrahim, and requested Anwar to convey these sentiments to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his family following the demise of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.
