From Mar-a-Lago to prison: The fall of Fernando Cerimedo in Bolivia

Fernando Cerimedo, a political consultant often referred to as “MAGA’s man in Latin America,” is currently detained in a high-security Bolivian prison. Prosecutors have accused him of hiring assassins to murder his pregnant mistress, Nadia Beller, a 33-year-old former congressional candidate. Surveillance footage shows two individuals posing as food delivery drivers ambushing Beller outside a hotel last month.

Beller has since accused Cerimedo, a 45-year-old married father of two, of ordering her killing to prevent her from exposing corruption and influence-peddling within the Bolivian government. However, Cerimedo has denied involvement in the attack, visibly breaking down in tears during a preliminary hearing. His attorney has questioned whether Beller may have orchestrated the plot herself.

The gunmen remain at large. This dramatic fall has shaken Bolivia's government and tarnished Cerimedo's reputation, one of the region's newest members of the conservative bloc. Bolivian authorities are investigating Cerimedo on charges of illicit enrichment, money laundering, usurpation of public functions, and alleged connections to drug trafficking, based on information provided by Beller.
