Police spokesperson Captain Majola Nkohli stated that officers were alerted around 07:15am following a complaint that a group of suspects in multiple trucks allegedly threw stones at a bus along Colosa Road. Upon arrival, police and other law enforcement agencies found the bus on fire with no passengers inside. Preliminary investigations revealed that the bus was attacked by suspects in several trucks, and the perpetrators robbed the passengers of their personal belongings, including cash.
No passengers were injured, but the bus driver and another individual sustained minor injuries. Police located and rescued a second bus being chased by the same group of individuals and arrested five men aged between 25 and 56. They are scheduled to appear in Dutywa magistrate’s court on 30 September 2026 and are charged with malicious damage to property, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and assault with intent to cause serious bodily harm. Brigadier Freddie commended the collective efforts of all stakeholders in combating crime.
