Ex-NFL star Antonio Brown set to appear in Miami court for expected plea agreement

Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is set to appear in a Miami courtroom on Wednesday to accept a plea deal. This arrangement will allow him to avoid prison time on a reduced charge in an attempted murder case, according to his attorney, Mark Eiglarsh. Brown's defense suggests he will plead no contest to aggravated assault and will not face adjudication as a convicted felon due to adjudication being withheld.

Originally, Brown faced up to 30 years in prison if convicted of the original charge. The plea deal has been described by Eiglarsh as "too good to turn down." The Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office has stated that details of the agreement will be clarified at the hearing.

Brown's alleged actions occurred on May 16, 2025, after a celebrity boxing match in Miami. He is accused of retrieving a handgun from a security staffer and firing two shots at Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, a man involved in a previous altercation. Nantambu was grazed by a bullet on the neck. Brown claims he acted in self-defense and to prevent theft of his jewelry.

Nantambu's attorney, Richard Cooper, has called the plea deal a fair one, stating that Nantambu forgives Brown and would not cooperate with law enforcement. Brown, now 38, had a 12-year NFL career, including stints with Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay, where he won a Super Bowl with Tom Brady. His career concluded abruptly in 2021 when he removed his jersey, pads, and gloves during a game.

Brown has faced numerous legal issues throughout his career, including battery, domestic violence charges, and failure to pay child support. He was recently extradited from Dubai, where he had business interests, following an arrest warrant for the attempted murder charge issued in June of the same year.
