Emeris dialogue explores how AI could expand opportunity in South Africa

Emeris, an educational brand of the Independent Institute of Education, hosted a dialogue at its one-year anniversary to examine the potential of AI to broaden opportunity in South Africa. The discussion, which brought together education and industry experts, looked beyond the hype surrounding AI and examined its real-world implications for education, skills, and employment.

The conversation focused on how South Africa could develop an education system that could adapt to a changing world, with a focus on rethinking teaching and learning methods and creating stronger pathways between education and meaningful employment opportunities. Chesare Pillay, Head of Partnerships and Technology at CAPACITI, emphasized that as creation becomes easier, being chosen becomes the hardest part, highlighting the importance of critical thinking, creation, adaptability, and distinction in the face of technological advancements.

Pillay further stressed that while technology will transform education, people remain at its core. The dialogue also celebrated Emeris' one-year milestone, reflecting on the pivotal role education can play in preparing young people to navigate and thrive in a rapidly evolving global job market.
