Dubai's Etihad Rail service launches as first train sets off for Abu Dhabi

Dubai's eagerly awaited Etihad Rail passenger service commenced its inaugural journey on Wednesday, marking a major advancement in the United Arab Emirates' expanding public transportation system. The National witnessed the launch firsthand, boarding the 6:14am train from Al Yalayis Station, adjacent to Jumeirah Golf Estates, bound for Abu Dhabi.

The inauguration of the Dubai line, which transpired three months after the inaugural route connecting Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, represents a crucial stride in the nation's strategy to enhance connectivity, foster economic development, and motivate commuters to opt for rail over personal vehicles during their daily travel. The Dubai segment of the Etihad Rail network is anticipated to function as a vital commuter conduit, linking the emirate to Abu Dhabi and to Fujairah.

Notably, the inaugural station in Dubai was inaugurated on Monday by President Sheikh Mohamed and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence. A distinctive feature of the new station is its direct linkage to the existing Dubai Metro Red Line via a 400-meter-long elevated pedestrian walkway. Moreover, when the Gold Metro Line becomes operational in 2032, the station will transform into an interchange point between the two lines.
