Dubai's Etihad Rail service launches as first train sets off for Abu Dhabi

Dubai's eagerly awaited Etihad Rail passenger service commenced its inaugural journey, marking a significant milestone for the UAE's expanding public transportation network. The National had the opportunity to witness passengers boarding the 6:14am train from Al Yalayis Station, situated adjacent to Jumeirah Golf Estates, bound for Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

The debut of the Dubai line - occurring three months after the inaugural Abu Dhabi-Fujairah route became accessible to the public - signifies a crucial advancement in the nation's ongoing endeavor to enhance connectivity, stimulate economic expansion, and motivate commuters to opt for rail instead of automobiles during their daily travels.

The initial Dubai route within the Etihad Rail network is anticipated to function as a vital commuter link, bridging the emirate with Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. Both President Sheikh Mohamed and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, attended the inauguration of Etihad Rail's Dubai station on Monday.

The recently constructed station boasts direct access to the existing Dubai Metro Red Line via a 400-meter-long elevated pedestrian walkway, which will transform into an interchange between the two lines when the Gold Metro Line opens in 2032.
