Coreline Soft Expands Japan Business from Lung Nodule AI to Coronary Calcium Analysis

Coreline Soft, a Korean medical AI company, is expanding its AI business in Japan by venturing beyond lung nodule detection to include coronary calcium analysis. The company recently received approval from Japan's Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) for its lung nodule detection solution, AVIEW Lung Nodule CAD, which it now plans to complement with AVIEW CAC, an AI tool for coronary artery calcium analysis.

Coreline Soft has secured an agreement with M3 AI to supply and distribute AVIEW CAC in Japan. This AI solution automatically detects and quantifies coronary artery calcification from chest CT images to assess cardiovascular risk.

The company's strategy focuses on extracting clinically relevant information from chest CT scans already taken for other purposes, a concept known as opportunistic screening. By analyzing and structuring findings from these scans, AI can provide valuable insights without the need for additional imaging. Coreline Soft has built a network of approximately 80 Japanese hospitals through its acquisition of VUNO Med-LungCT and subsequent expansion of its customer base. This established network will now host the introduction of Coreline Soft's AVIEW portfolio.

Japan's extensive CT infrastructure, with one of the highest numbers of CT scanners per capita among OECD countries, provides a wealth of existing medical imaging data that AI technologies can leverage. This, coupled with the country's aging population and increasing incidence of cardiovascular disease, creates a compelling market for AI solutions that can extract additional clinical information from scans already being performed.

Coreline Soft's "One CT, Multi-Disease" approach aims to broaden the role of AI from detecting individual diseases to extracting a comprehensive range of clinical information from a single chest CT examination.
