Trump, tech leaders sign 4-tier pact for AI self-regulation

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump joined technology industry leaders to sign a voluntary White House accord aimed at enhancing the safety and oversight of advanced artificial intelligence systems. The accord, dubbed the "White House Accord on Super Intelligence," mandates four tiers of internal controls for companies developing and deploying frontier AI models.

These measures include continuous monitoring of model capabilities, internal oversight groups, independent evaluations, and an accountability committee within each company's board.

The accord focuses on four key defensive areas: preventing rogue access to critical technical networks, biosecurity risks, chemical weapons synthesis, and cyber intrusions. Companies are required to fund internal oversight groups responsible for real-time auditing and vulnerability addressing. Independent evaluators will periodically stress-test safeguards and publish performance reviews, ensuring ongoing safety measures.

High-profile tech executives such as Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jensen Huang, Dario Amodei, Sundar Pichai, and OpenAI president Greg Brockman signed the accord. Additional technology leaders from companies like Amazon and Palantir also attended the US meeting, signaling broad industry support for the self-regulation initiative.

President Trump hailed the meeting as productive and praised the United States as a global leader in AI, vowing to maintain that position. He emphasized that the accord functions akin to a constitution, offering protection through industry self-policing.
