College student fails to strike out murder charge over Jalan Ampang collision that killed couple

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 — A court has dismissed a college student's attempt to have a murder charge against him dropped in relation to a collision on Jalan Ampang that resulted in the deaths of a married couple four months ago. High Court Judge Datuk Aslam Zainuddin upheld the prosecution's objection to Danish Raman Kamar Kumaresan's application to strike out the charge on August 5.

The judge stated that the court found the prosecution's preliminary objection to be valid, and therefore dismissed Danish's application to have the murder charge dismissed. Danish, 24, argued that the charge was unjust and a breach of the Federal Constitution's Articles 5 and 8. On May 2, Danish was charged with the murder of A. Doraisingam, 61, and his wife A. Menagah, 56, who were killed when their Honda Wave Alpha motorcycle was struck from behind by a Toyota Vios driven by another individual.

The incident occurred at 5.30am on May 2, as the couple traveled from the direction of KLCC towards Ampang Point. Danish was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which prescribes a penalty of death or imprisonment of 30-40 years, with a mandatory 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
