CJ ENM Accelerates K-Content Expansion in the UK

CJ ENM, a prominent global IP company, recently formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK) and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) UK Business Centre on September 30th. This strategic alliance aims to expedite the proliferation and visibility of Korean creative content throughout the United Kingdom and Europe.

To inaugurate this cooperation, the trio will co-host 'Curated Korea 2026,' a ten-day cultural event unfolding in London during the month of October. This initiative encompasses screen content, literary works, and gastronomic experiences, showcasing exclusive K-drama screenings, creator discussions, and networking events, all geared towards fostering direct interaction between Korean creators and UK viewers.

The partnership encompasses the combined proficiency and networks of all three organizations, with the intent to bolster the worldwide standing of premium Korean intellectual property. By establishing dedicated forums for direct communication, CJ ENM and its partners aspire to strengthen ties with local viewers while forging fresh avenues for industry collaboration in the region.

Speaking on the significance of the partnership for European dispersal, representatives from all three entities underscored the strategic importance of joint cultural undertakings. Sebastian Kim, Head of Content Distribution Business Unit at CJ ENM, pointed out that the UK acts as a crucial conduit for European markets, stating that presenting opportunities for audiences to experience content beyond the screen establishes a robust groundwork for enduring engagement with both domestic spectators and industry collaborators.

Rosa Park, Regional Director of the KOCCA UK Business Centre, added that the alliance exploits their combined organizational networks to streamline the penetration of Korean content into the UK while actively encouraging exchange and cooperation across the creative sectors of both nations. Park Hyo-keon, Director of the KCCUK, affirmed that the program interweaves diverse elements of modern Korean culture, encompassing drama, literature, and cuisine, to cultivate enduring bonds among creators, patrons, and cultural establishments in Korea and the UK.

During October, 'Curated Korea 2026' will spotlight four distinct CJ ENM titles at prominent sites across London. The commencement of the initiative occurs on October 1st at the KCCUK with a screening, question-and-answer session, and networking function for 'The Ordinary Jackpot.' The narrative revolves around Gong Eun-tae, a disheartened office employee whose life undergoes an unforeseen twist following a 1.3 billion won (approximately $961,000) lottery victory.

Acknowledging that the jackpot is still insufficient to purchase a domicile in Seoul, he opts to revert to his customary regimen, now endowed with a refreshed outlook and the assurance of financial stability. The exhibit progresses on October 8th at Foyles Charing Cross Road with 'Study Group,' accompanied by an exclusive dialogue with the creator of the original webtoon.

Starring Hwang Min-hyun as Yun Ga-min, the narrative revolves around a student at a notorious technical high school whose primary talent is combat, as he forms an unanticipated study group in a sincere quest to secure admission to college. On October 9th, RSA House will host a screening of 'Bon Appétit, Your Majesty' alongside a networking soiree.
