[ASIAN GAMES] Kwon Soon-woo exits tennis singles in third round due to injury

NAGOYA, Japan - South Korean tennis player Kwon Soon-woo had to withdraw from his third-round men's singles match at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Wednesday due to a knee injury. Kwon was down 3-0 in the first set against Uzbekistan's Khumoyun Sultanov when he retired. This was Kwon's fifth match at the Asian Games, following two singles and two doubles matches.

Along with Kwon, all four Korean singles players failed to advance beyond the third round, eliminating them from medal contention. Earlier, Hong Seong-chan lost in the men's singles second round, and Back Da-yeon and Ku Yeon-woo were defeated in the women's second round. Korea secured a bronze medal in men's doubles on Wednesday, with Nam Ji-sung and Park Ui-sung advancing to the semifinals.

In the quarterfinals, Nam and Park beat Thailand's Pruchya Isaro and Maximus Jones 2-0 (6-2, 6-3), securing Korea's second consecutive men's doubles medal. With no bronze medal matches remaining, Korea's medal hopes in tennis are now limited to doubles.
