(Asiad) S. Korea takes women's team bronze in compound archery

OKAZAKI, Japan -- South Korea secured a bronze medal in the women's compound archery team event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Wednesday, narrowly edging out Chinese Taipei. The South Korean team, consisting of Park Ye-rin, Kang Yeon-seo, and Park Jung-yoon, triumphed over their Chinese Taipei counterparts with a score of 229-228 at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square, located about 50 kilometers southeast of Nagoya, the main host city.

In compound archery, archers shoot from a distance of 50 meters, using mechanical release aids and magnified sights. Each archer takes two arrows per end, aiming for a maximum score of 60 points per team after four ends or 24 arrows. The competition saw South Korea score a perfect 60 in the first end, matching Chinese Taipei with 58 in the second end.

Chinese Taipei overtook South Korea 56-55 in the third end, tying the overall score at 173-173. However, South Korea emerged victorious in the fourth end with a score of 229, clinching the bronze medal after Chinese Taipei's final arrow fell short of a 10. Earlier, South Korea had lost to the defending champion India 234-233 in the semifinals, securing a spot in the bronze medal match.
