Ashes tickets expensive, admits ECB chief Gould

The CEO of the England and Wales Cricket Board has acknowledged that tickets to the upcoming Ashes series in 2027 are expensive. Fans will have to spend hundreds of pounds to view Australia's Test tour to England the following summer, with prices in Edgbaston increasing by over 40 percent. This has raised concerns among some in the cricket community.

Richard Gould, the ECB chief, confirmed the price hikes have made tickets costly. "It is expensive," he stated on the Stick to Cricket podcast. "The Ashes will have a price range between £90 and £165, depending on the venue and seating location. Inflation has risen by 20 per cent since the last Ashes." However, Gould emphasized that all money generated from cricket goes back into the sport, benefiting grassroots cricket, premier leagues, and England teams.

The 2027 Ashes series might conclude before August begins due to recent adjustments in the cricket calendar to accommodate The Hundred, a popular T20 league that dominates the summer months. Consequently, fans purchasing tickets may face the risk of early summer rain. Additionally, there are concerns about the Ashes Tests not being hosted north of Nottingham in 2027.

Despite this, Gould assured that Ashes Tests will return to the North in subsequent editions, promising a fair distribution of venues across the country.
